Will McCain’s campaign succeed if they focus on Obama’s associations?
I expect that this question has probably been asked already. I raise this question because of an article written by Howard Wolfson (FOXNews contributor and former Hillary Clinton campaign supporter).

First and foremost, Howard is a Democrat, so his views are partisan. I won’t weigh this in my argument – but I have listed his article as a source to review.

    New Republic article:

I also have my doubts that a negative campaign, at this late in the game, will sway any voters – and I’m a Republican.

I think that a rational discussion can come from this.

I am well aware of Obama’s poor judgment in past associations, and I think that his association with Bill Ayers is worth addressing. But in addition, and for fairness, I also believe that McCain’s past associations be considered in this discussion.

Bottom line, I fear that all of this will lead us further away from the true issues that affect every American citizen.

By choosing to focus on negative character associations, we assume that all people are guilty of the crimes that our neighbors commit.

For example, I know my neighbor, and I have had dinner in his home, but if his kid robbed a bank, should I be denied a job?

P.S. If my neighbor reads this, I just found out about your son. Sorry to broadcast your personal business online. We can still meet up Saturday, because I need my Mikita back. And my auger. And that 50 bucks I loaned you.

This campaign is effectively over. Obama is going to win the election. Associations with terrorists, racists, and criminals don’t seem to matter to the dim-witted electorate in this country.

It has been said that we get the government we deserve. If we are wreckless and ignorant enough to elect Obama, then we deserve the outcome, which won’t be pretty for anyone.

The tide is turning Obama’s way at this point, so it would take quite a major revelation for this to reverse skate. The political storm right now is a little too much for McCain to overcome.

I’ll try once more. Sen. Obama has known people who will NEVERr be put up for sainthood. He’s also has known and associated with many people who probably COULD be nominated for sainthood. He’s also known at least as many people who fall somewhere in the middle on the Great Curve of personal virtue. I suspect that everyone reading this post could say the same thing about themselves. The idea that the republicans would attempt to use a few less than ideal persons to smear Sen. Obama has a massive ‘ick’ factor to it. Let’s be real! Sen. Obama is a Chicago politician. Chicago is a city where they take their politics straight up with no chaser. It would be impossible for anyone involved in Chicago politics NOT to know and be associated with folks that you wouldn’t want your daughter to marry. I like Obama, I intend to vote for Obama, but I doubt if he’s a stand in for Jesus Christ. Frankly I don’t care. We need radical change and none of the republicans are willing to do that. I’m not inclined to vote for Sen. McCain because he represents the retro politics and policies of the current GOP, a party that’s devoted to war, borrowed money and the fortunes of corporate dons, oil mafia godfathers and the radical clerics of the Christian right. There’s no place in their collective ideology for the needs of the american wage-earner. In my opinion anyone who votes for these losers is out of his or her mind. Obama’s a good guy. Probably McCain is a good guy as well, but his party truly sucks and that’s my personal bottom line!
